It’s hard imagining life in today’s world without a credit card. Unfortunately, if you cancel your American Express credit card like I did, it means you cannot have access to certain services you may have taken for granted. I found I couldn’t join my local gym, order clothes over the internet or even reserve a plane ticket to New York, online, the basic stuff of life. I remember when using cash was the preferred way to buy things.
Using an American Express, Visa or Mastercard has become commonplace globally but we do it without thinking, do I need this and do I have the money. How many people consider the cost of paying later when they have the convenience of having now, when using their American Express credit card. The amount of money owed on credit cards is growing everywhere. It is true that credit debts are one of the biggest problems that are facing America today, and that is no joke.
That is one of the main reasons why I had to cancel my American Express credit card in the first place. I was getting out of control with my spending because it was just so easy handing over the card. Everything went onto my card and it didn’t take long before debt went out of control. Panic kicked in when I found I could no longer pay the debt.
I actually had to go through a debt refinancing service to get my credit card debt into some kind of shape where I could hope to pay it. It’s not something I ever want to repeat. The hardship was worth it though because I am now debt free and my American Express credit card is no more. Don’t think I am making excuses when I blame my credit card because you are not taking into account basic human psychology.
If you pay for goods or services in cash, you actually see that money coming out of your pocket. The credit card just made it so easy; you don’t even look at the cost. I would spend money on everything, almost like a person possessed but before long, there wasn’t anything left. Now, there is no longer a problem because there’s no longer an American Express credit card.
